The Citadel and fortifications of Cambrai offer an 8-stage tour of its remains and underground passageways.
Built in 1543 by Charles V, the Cambrai citadel was a strategic military stronghold. Although partially destroyed in the 19th century, it still retains historic features such as the counter-mine gallery, the royal gate, a 16th-century arsenal and 18th-century dwellings. The counter-mine galleries are open every Saturday at 4.30pm, for €7. Reservations required on 03 27 78 36 15 or [email protected], places are limited.
