HARVEST MOUNTAIN GARDEN - WOUWENBERGHOF
Passionately tended garden just 20 km from Belgium.
There are few gardens inspired by the Flemish Renaissance in France. But there is one in the north of France, just twenty kilometres from Belgium, in Cassel to be precise. Once abandoned, the house was bought by a landscape architect in 1990, Emmanuel de Quillacq, who restored the place. Springtime is in full swing with the blossoming of thousands of narcissus bulbs, but also botanical crocuses, puschkinias, scillas, Ornithogalum, large-flowered crocuses, etc. Over 1.5 hectares, eighteen gardens open onto the surrounding countryside, in a landscape that can be contemplated like a master's painting, with its views and glimpses of the Flemish bocage. You can admire the topiary art carried out on the yew trees, all well trimmed, with elements reminiscent of the decoration on the façade of the house. The panorama is superb and offers beautiful perspectives on the Houtland plain. This garden is maintained with passion and it shows. However, if you want to enjoy the garden to the full, it is best to take a walk and discover the treasures it contains. In 2011, this garden was elected garden of the year by the Association of Garden and Horticultural Journalists (AJJH). In addition, the gardens of Mont des Récollets was also elected 9th favorite garden of the French in the TV show Le jardin préféré des Français in 2013. If you stay in the area, also visit the nearby mill.
