BASILIQUE SAINTE-MAXELLENDE
Basilica Sainte-Macellende of Gothic style in Caudry, with 3 bells nicely named Vox Dei, Pax and Macellende.
Unmissable in Caudry during a visit, the basilica of Sainte-Maxellende is dedicated to the eponymous saint, a young Caudresian who was martyred by Harduin d'Amerval in the 7th century. Built in the Gothic style between 1887 and 1890, it is still a place of pilgrimage for the blind and visually impaired. Among its remarkable aspects, we will note the three bells nicely named Vox Dei, Pax and Maxellende. Don't miss the two rose windows: they each contain 4,600 pieces of glass!
