BASTIONED FORTIFICATIONS AND RAMPARTS
Bastioned fortifications making the charm of Condé-sur-l'Escaut and ramparts inviting to walks, hosting events.
This is what makes the city of Condé-sur-l'Escaut so charming! The bastioned fortifications date back to the time of the Netherlands, the Spanish conquests and the decision taken in 1654 to erect the city as a stronghold to face Louis XIV. They were then improved by Vauban after the capture of Condé by Louis XIV. Today, these ramparts give a particular character to the city and they are a place of very appreciated walk. Many events are organized there.
