THE MINING TOWNS OF FRAIS-MARAIS
The Frais-Marais mining estates are a place where you can discover estates built in radically different styles.
Slightly off-centre, the Frais-Marais district (Unesco heritage site since 2012) is worth a visit. From the 16th century onwards, vast mansions were built on this former marshland. Then came industrialization and mining. A mining town was built at the beginning of the 20th century, then three others in 1927, 1928 and 1950. By visiting these 4 housing estates, you will discover 50 years of mining housing, with different styles but a common identity.
