GRAND PORT MARITIME DE DUNKERQUE
The third French port and located on the North Sea, Dunkerque Harbor has facilities to accommodate all types of goods and larger ships. It has two sea inputs and covers 7,000 ha and a length of 17 km. The first activities of the harbor go back to the eleventh century. From 1350, commercial traffic with Holland and England grew. Once in the hands of Louis XIV, the port of Dunkerque has a time of major work that will shape the present port. The Sun King introduces the franchise to the territory. During the Second World War, he suffered five hard years of siege, the city was shaved at 90% and the deserted port was subject to the tides. In August 1945, reconstruction works were estimated at 1.2 billion francs. After a period of important extensions of port infrastructure, Dunkerque became France's first mineral port. The autonomous harbor was established on November 8, 1965.
