THE SAILING BOAT DUCHESSE ANNE
The sailing ship Duchesse Anne is the largest visitable sailing ship in France
The majestic three-masted Duchesse Anne, a former German training ship based in Dunkirk, offers a fascinating insight into the lives of sailors in days gone by. Launched in 1901 under the name Grossherzogin Elisabeth, this ship plied the seas for 30 years, training generations of officers and sailors. Bought by the city of Dunkirk in 1981, she was restored and opened to the public in 2001, after 19 years of renovation. A 30-minute tour allows visitors to discover the ship's various spaces and imagine life aboard this majestic three-master.
