BRASSERIE CAPPELAERE
At the beginning of the 20th century, there were one or even several breweries in each district of Dunkirk. The city is slowly reconnecting with its brewing past thanks to young enthusiasts like Julien Cappelaere. He started brewing his beers to have fun in 2016 with a kit in his kitchen, and this is gradually becoming his business. He's even starting to make a living from it. He enjoys very favourable word of mouth. And everything went very fast. In March 2018, he founded his company and in July 2018, he opened his small workshop in the heart of Malo-les-Bains. It is there that you can taste and buy your beer twice a week where he makes it with the choice of Hoppy Bear (6°) well hopped, Golden Bear with a round and malty flavour (6°) and Big Bear (a triple to 9°). During the year, he also brews new recipes depending on the season and his mood. And he is a bit of a victim of his success: his beers are already on the menu of several restaurants and specialized shops. As a beer enthusiast, he deplored that the industry standardizes the taste of beer, microbreweries like him make (re)discover all their originality of taste to amateurs.
