The largest and best-preserved fortifications in northern France, the 12th-century Vauban fortifications at Le Quesnoy.
The fortifications of Le Quesnoy, built in the 12th century and improved by Vauban in the 17th century, now offer two hiking trails to discover its bastions and other defensive features. The site hosts historic events such as the Bivouac des Armées révolutionnaires and commemorations of the town's liberation by the New Zealanders, which have made Le Quesnoy an important place of remembrance for the New Zealand nation.
