DUNE FOSSILE
The Dune Fossile de Ghyvelde, located to the east of Dunkirk, is a secluded dune.
Located east of Dunkerque, the Dune Fossile de Ghyvelde is a dune set back from the sea (it marks the ancient shoreline) that dates back more than 5,000 years. Also called the pine dune, here the sand is covered with moss, lichens and small woods alongside large bodies of water. Property of the Conservatoire du littoral and classified Natura 2000, the Dune Fossile abounds in a varied fauna and flora. It is the only dune of its kind in France. A beautiful marked out walk (8 km) is offered to the walkers on its 112 hectares!
