Vaucelles Abbey is one of those heritage wonders that France is secretly full of. This Cistercian abbey is of course classified as a Monument Historique and remains an unusual construction, both in terms of its size and its cultural importance. Founded by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, it was built from 1132 on a piece of land given by Hugues d'Oisy, lord of Crèvecœur-sur-Escaut. Restored since 1971, it regularly hosts cultural events, craft markets and even weddings.

Closed from December to March 14. Closed Mondays except July and August. Closed May 1 and 16. Open Tuesday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; weekends and public holidays, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. July and August: open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5:30pm. Sundays and public holidays from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Adults: €6. 4 € Reduced rate, Free: under 26s, disabled persons, social security beneficiaries. Open to children (children's workshops in July and August). Guided tour (every Sunday in July and August at 4pm). Gift store. Tearoom.

Visited in november 2023

Lieu intéressant, chargé d'histoire. Jardins sympathiques. Pour le lieu, pas de meubles, cela reste simple, certaines parties étaient fermées ( cellier, dortoir) ce qui limite la visite. Comptez environ 1heure. Je préconise de visiter le premier dimanche du mois ou à la dernière heure d'ouverture car c'est gratuit.
Ce peut être sympa d'aller à la brasserie après quand celle ci est ouverte ( bien vérifier avant d'y aller )
