LOCAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Museum housing the remains of an abbey and presenting the recent history of Marchiennes, especially during the world wars.
The museum is located in the former prisons of the city. The remains of the abbey occupy a large part of the rooms: sculptures, bas-reliefs, representations, plans... mixed with a detailed iconography of the town. The abbey was founded around 630 by the Merovingians. The visit really culminates in the discovery of the relief plan of Marchiennes in 1791. Finally, a section recounts the recent history of the town, particularly during the world wars, including photographs dating from 1917. A town with a rich past that the inhabitants have managed to sublimate.
