Built at the end of the th century, this former military building became the cultural centre of the city of Mons. On the occasion of Lille 2004 European Capital of Culture, this building, nestled in a island of greenery, becomes one of the Metropolis's Folie houses. Today the building houses the municipal library, the conservatory, a multimedia area, a game, an open-air theatre and a restaurant in one of the vaulted halls of the building. It is also the seat of the cinema association, Time Exquisite.

J'ai eu l'occasion de voir un spectacle d'improvisation dans ce cadre sympa. Le fort de Mons est une jolie bâtisse qui mérite qu'on s'y arrête.

Longtemps, je pensais que Fort de Mons n'était qu'une station de métro. Lors d'une exploration urbaine, je suivi un panneau qui indiqué bien la présence d'un fort. Je m'attendais à voir des ruines mais au lieu de cela, j'arrivai devant un grand bâtiment de brique rénové ressemblant à une caserne militaire. Le fort de Mons est un complexe culturel composé d'une salle des fêtes, d'une école de musique, d'une bibliothèque et d'une salle d'exposition. Le restaurant quant à lui, d'après mais recherches sur la toile pour réserver une table, semble fermé suite à liquidation judiciaire.
