BRASSERIE HEINEKEN
This brewery is emblematic of the brewing history of the region. It was originally created in Lille in 1863 by Louis Boucquey. In 1921, it merged with two other local breweries and took the name of the Pelican, a bird to the large beak capable of swallowing large quantities of beer. The Pelforth beer has thus seen the day, contraction between "pelican" and "strong" spelled in English. The brewery moved to Mons-en-Barœul in 1966 before being bought by the French brewery in 1986 and then integrated into the Heineken Group in 1993.
It is one of the largest production units in the Dutch group in France with a capacity greater than 2,5 million hectolitres annually. Most of the manufacturing concerns the famous green bottle, but Pelforth beers are still loads in Mons, testifying to this regional heritage.
