Founded in 1978, the Compagnie de l'Oiseau-Mouche only really began its professional activity in 1981. For 36 years now, this company, a unique project in France, has been thrilling the hearts of the people of Roubaix. Far from the codes of today's theater companies, l'Oiseau-Mouche is open to all. As part of a genuine policy of democratizing culture and artistic practice, the company sees live performance as a means of opening up and sharing. With its eclectic programming, L'Oiseau-Mouche sees itself not as a classic theater, but as a cultural factory offering new and constantly evolving shows. Focused on visitors and keen to offer them a unique experience, the company organizes workshops, training courses, assistance in setting up theater projects and even guided tours of the site. L'Oiseau-Mouche has set up shop in a former spinning mill. The auditorium is housed in the former workshops, while the former manor house houses the management. As for the theater itself, it has taken up residence in a former... garage! These buildings, which bear witness to the town's industrial history, were the perfect setting for a company fiercely attached to its town. L'Oiseau-Mouche also boasts two restaurants, l'Alimentation and le Garage, offering simple yet refined cuisine based on fresh local produce.
