THE FIVE SIZES
This ornithological site, some thirty kilometers from the greater Lille area, is a great place for walks and discoveries.
The Cinq Tailles ornithological site is located just thirty kilometers from the greater Lille area, in the communes of Thumeries and Neuville. Situated close to the source of the river Marque, between the Pévèle and Mélantois plateaus, it is also linked to the Phalempin forest massif and lies at the heart of large agricultural plains. All of which makes for an impressive green space! Once the industrial site of sugar giant Béghin-Say, this exceptional site of 70 ha of forest and 35 ha of former settling ponds was bought by the Département du Nord in 2001. Since the work was completed in 2005, the Cinq Tailles is now an ornithological site open all year round, and a magnificent place for walking. Four kilometers of trails (three of which are accessible to people with reduced mobility) and four observatories will enable you to observe dozens of species of birds that have come to find refuge, as well as the flora of the region. A true marvel of nature!

proof that nature can regain its rights, on a site once
exploited by man. Moorhens, herons, egrets, cormorants,
black-headed gulls splash in ponds,
ponds which by the past, were anything else only swimming pools
