MJC LA FABRIQUE
Since 2005, the DJC DE has been home to one of the most beautiful industrial buildings in the city: the old Tiberghien Brothers factory. In 1853, the factory will be in operation only in 1890. The company Tiberghien Frères specializes first in the scouring of wool. This operation consists of washing wool to release it from its grease, that is, the fat liquid that silicone the body of wool cattle. In 1900, the plant expanded and acquired new buildings. In this buzzing hive, 2 500 people are engaged in peignage, spinning and weaving activities. The factory flourished until the 90 s. At this time, like many others in the region, the plant is hit by the crisis and must cease its activities. If industrial activity ceases, the building shall be retained. And it will even be rehabilitated in 2005. It is the architect Tourquennois Chelouti who repense. The visitor can come to see this jewel of industrial architecture in complete freedom since the DJC is open to all. Entering the building is amazed by the size of the proportions, the dialogue between bricks and light that gives life to the building. Permitted by the puncture of windows métalliques bays, this entrance of light in the building is spectacular. Another feature is not to miss, the roof with long stretches. LA regularly organises concerts, animations and conferences. This is a good opportunity to discover this extraordinary building.
