AVENUE GUSTAVE DRON
No matter where you are going to discover you, Avenue Gustave Dron offers all Kinds of heritage treasures not to be missed. At the crossing with the rue d'Havré, the avenue opens onto an incredible building with a real admiral. They are the Arcades. Built between 1930 and 1932, they are the symbol of modernizing the city that is modernizing. Their beautiful printing of brick, concrete and enamelled ceramics with bluish hues gives the whole thing a great appearance. By continuing your walk, you then longerez the old position of the city. Built in 1935, it is a fine example of Art Deco. Note in particular the typography chosen for inscriptions on the facade, typical of this style. The brick responds to the stone and creates a color set that gives life to the facade. A little further away, on the sidewalk opposite, probably one of the most beautiful villas in Tourcoing. Inspired by Art nouveau, this house made in 1906 by Charles Bourgeois impresses with the richness of colours and shapes that decorate its facade. Triangular shapes respond to circle arches, while shades of green and yellow combine to give weight and brightness to the whole. Finally, at the end of the Avenue, on the square Sémard, lies the Gare station. Built in 1905 by Sidney Dunnett, the architect of Roubaix railway station, the lovely railway station is a mixture of Renaissance and modernity. The brick side pavilions provide the central part of iron and glass. An architecture that is reminiscent of that of his neighbour roubaisienne. Through a single avenue, you may have seen many different styles and astonishing buildings, symbols of a city whose wealth is often unknown.
