LES PORTES DE LA VILLE
Two gateways that once encircled Villeneuve-sur-Lot, remarkable historic sites built in the century.
Of the 7 gates that once encircled Villeneuve-sur-Lot, only 2 remain in the town center: Porte de Paris and Porte de Pujols, built in the 14th century. The others were destroyed in the 17th century, under Mazarin, during the Fronde. These square towers with machicolations are a reminder of their defensive function. Although their shapes are similar, you'll enjoy spotting the subtle differences between these two well-preserved listed buildings, testimony to the rich heritage of the town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot.
