PLACE LAFAYETTE
This superb square features a remarkable fountain and is surrounded by arcades. It is home to Villeneuve's must-see market.
A landmark, this charming arcaded square is home to the Saturday market. It owes its name to Alexandre Guyot, a doctor concerned with improving the district's hygiene by installing running water. In 1835, he bequeathed a sum of money to the city for a public fountain, demanding that the Place Publique be renamed Place Lafayette. The city agreed, but the fountain was not erected until 1872. In 2024, the square was given a facelift, further enhancing its charm. You'll love strolling through its arcades, restaurants and shops
