THE HALL
Many villages in the Lot-et-Garonne have a covered market, but the one in the bastide town of Villeréal is particularly noteworthy.
Villeréal's central market hall is a true marvel. Magnificently preserved, its dimensions are impressive: a 30-metre square with an oak-beamed roof structure rising to over 15 metres. It also boasts a rare second floor, once used by the kingdom's high officials and later transformed into a town hall, baillage and jurade. Above the angles, the half-timbered houses, genoises and corbels are worthy of note. The market hall is the venue for summer events.
