This necropolis in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire is an emblematic site of the Great War, featuring a neo-Byzantine basilica.

The hill is home to France's largest national necropolis, with a neo-Byzantine basilica in the center and a 52-meter high lantern tower. 40,000 bodies lie in eight ossuaries. A ring-shaped international memorial, in the immediate vicinity of the necropolis, commemorates the 580,000 soldiers of all nationalities who fell in Artois and Flanders. Between March1 and November 30, honor guards are on hand to guide you through the site.

Tout le site est très emouvant : la necropole, l' anneau de la mémoire et très bien entretenu. Des personnes sont sur place pour donner des explications. Y amener les enfants permet de concretiser leur cours d'histoire. Plusieurs randonnées autour pour decouvrir le site.
