SAINT-PIERRE COLLEGIATE CHURCH
Discover the Saint-Pierre collegiate church, a listed architectural masterpiece and emblem of a city steeped in history.
Listed as a historical monument in 1862, the collegiate church rises to its full splendour in the heart of the city. It was at first only the simple church of a chapter of canons founded by Beaudoin V, Count of Flanders, in the 11th century. The numerous wars that followed left their mark on the stone, notably during a bombing in August 1944, but it was always rebuilt according to its original plan. Amongst other little wonders, in the sacristy is a 1630 copy of Caravaggio's painting The Crucifixion of St Peter.
