TOWN HOTEL
Classical-style belfry built from 1716 to 1721, symbolizing Aire-sur-la-Lys' return to the fold of the kingdom of France.
Built between 1716 and 1721, the town hall is the work of architect Héroguel. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1947 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, this classical-style belfry symbolizes the city's return to the Kingdom of France after the Dutch occupation of 1710. Ten pilasters crown a balustrade and pediment charged with the symbols of strength and justice. The city's coat of arms has replaced the royal coat of arms, but an Apollo head recalls the Sun King.
