TOWN HOTEL
Classical style belfry built between 1716 and 1721 symbolizing the return of Aire-sur-la-Lys to the fold of the kingdom of France.
Built between 1716 and 1721, the town hall is the work of King Louis XIV's architect in Arras: Héroguel. Classified as a historical monument in 1947 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, this classical-style belfry symbolises the return of Aire-sur-la-Lys to the bosom of the Kingdom of France after the Dutch occupation of 1710. Ten pilasters crown a balustrade and a pediment charged with symbols of strength and justice. The arms of the town have replaced the royal arms but a head of Apollo still betrays the imprint of the Sun King.
