THE ABBEY CHURCH OF SAINT-GEORGES AND SAINT-SILVIN
Church of a Benedictine abbey founded in the 7th century where you can admire a magnificent high altar in Auchy-lès-Hesdin.
Before the French Revolution, the building was the church of a Benedictine abbey founded in the 7th century. Then history played its part, the abbey was transformed into a cotton mill and the church of Saint-Georges and Saint-Silvin became that of the parish. The stalls in the monks' choir, dating from the 18th century, are remarkable. One can also admire a magnificent high altar surmounted by an altarpiece featuring a Descent from the Cross attributed to the workshop of the Flemish painter Van Dyck.
