ST. VAST'S CHURCH
Visit of a church to discover the beautiful stained glass windows that retrace the life of Saint Vaast, and the modern history of the city.
Built by order of Charles V in 1547, the church of Saint-Vaast did not survive the bombings of the First World War: it was totally destroyed in 1918. For its reconstruction (from 1924 to 1927), Louis-Marie Cordonnier was inspired by Byzantine art and Art Deco to bring light into the building. You will discover beautiful stained glass windows that retrace the life of Saint Vaast, the modern history of the city, as well as the statues of Réal del Sarte. Made in Germany, the organ of the church is unique in France.
