The facades of Béthune's Grand'Place are part of the charm of the city's motley-looking town center.
Béthune's Grand'Place, the target of numerous bombardments, was more than 90% destroyed during the 1914-1918 war. Three architects were commissioned to rebuild it: Jacques Alleman, Paul Dégez and Léon Guthmann. Eager to respect Béthune's past, but also to embrace modernity, they opted for an eclectic style, blending Art Deco and regionalist architecture, which today makes for the originality and charm of the city's heterogeneous downtown.

Une reconstruction réussie
Si le centre ville de Béthune a été détruit par les bombardements de 1918, la reconstruction de la Grand'Place est sans aucun doute un petit bijou d'architecture.
