JUDENGARDEN
Old cemetery with a mortuary house still in use and hidden graves, as it was the only communal cemetery
In the forest, where the Mühlbach flows, the old Jewish cemetery is located. The most recent part of the cemetery, with its mortuary house (tahora hiesel), is still in use, but it is probably the oldest part that is the most interesting and surprising with its hidden graves. Some of the graves date back to the 17th century, when it was very difficult for the Jewish people to be buried in the large Alsatian cities. It is the only Jewish cemetery in Alsace to be communal. Since 2009, a memorial of the deportation is installed there.
