THE DUNGEON OF THE LABORER
This is the only vestige of the castle built in Bruay-la-Buissière in the century where the lord's coat of arms can still be seen.
Labuissière's keep is the only vestige of the castle built in the 12th century, which stood as history left it after numerous modifications until 1964, when it was demolished. It was built around 1310 by Countess Mahaut d'Artois as protection against invasion. It rises to a height of twenty meters, and its staircase has no fewer than 94 steps! The shield bearing the lord's coat of arms can still be seen, as can the vaulted ceiling on sandstone columns supporting the three-meter-thick walls.
