BULLECOURT AUSTRALIAN MEMORIAL
Digger statue commemorating the 10,000 Australian soldiers who fell in the two Bullecourt battles of 1917.
On April 10, 1917, the Battle of Arras was launched a day earlier: Australian soldiers stormed the German lines at Bullecourt. A second offensive was launched on May 3. The Bullecourt Memorial commemorates the fighting of 1917, in which 10,000 Australian soldiers perished. The memorial park is home to the Digger statue, representing the Australian divisions involved. Designed by Peter Corlett, it commemorates the sacrifices of the Great War.
