This is undoubtedly the most beautiful hotel in Calais. The majestic entrance is framed by wood, set carpet and antique chairs in an ancient patchwork of styles that gives this establishment the appearance of a manor. The grand staircase leads to the rooms. There are 39 in total, each has its style but all are characterized by their relaxed and warm elegance. The hotel offers rooms with whirlpool baths and the possibility of getting a massage upon reservation. The breakfast room which is completely renovated is located in the heart of the garden. The charm of the Hotel Meurice lies in the incredible balance where one feels at home and elsewhere! Please note, the establishment offers a reception room of 250 seats and meeting rooms for 10 to 15 people. One Monday every two months, the owner organizes a whiskey tasting with a meal in the hotel bar.

Every time we take the ferry we stay at Meurice - it has such a lovely old days charme , the staff is very friendly and helpful, the beds and showers are great and the variety of the breakfirst is very good value for money. Its really only 5 min by foot from the main restaurants , lovely park f.dogs which are welcome , is close as well. For us its a bit of homecoming every time, thank you !

We have stayed at this Hotel many times over the last 20 years. It is ideally located, the rooms are old country house/mansion style and all the staff are really nice. That is except for one unpleasant individual who is part of the Management team I believe. He was off hand and boorish with us when we arrived. He did not answer the phone when I waited to enter the underground car park and told me he was busy talking to a colleague. I had been into the Hotel 2 hours before and was told by another , very friendly, person to park at the entrance and call them to let me in. I couldn't see that he was chatting to a colleague from the car park and so abandoned my car and walked round to the reception to ask him to let us in. I said "Bonjour " to him and asked him in French if he spoke English. He replied " I said Bonjour didn't I?". Of course I complained in writing about how we were treated and unfortunately the same person eventually anonymously replied and basically told me I was wrong for complaining and went into detail about the refurbishments to the Hotel. I have read similar reviews about him on Google about his attitude towards English people.
It is a great shame that we will never visit this Hotel again because of one unpleasant little man. We stayed in 12 other Hotels in France during this last trip and every other one was warm and welcoming except for this one. All the other staff were lovely, it is such a shame that one bad apple can spoil the whole experience for you.
I hope that Thierry H., The Owner reads this review. I am happy to forward my complaint and the very defensive and frankly rude response I received from the anonymous Manager if he cares to read them.

We booked two rooms at this hotel on our way to Britain. Upon check-in, porter greeted us with the question: “give me at least one reason why I should speak to you in English.” He spoke in a very rude and boorish manner like he pays us money. Everyone knows that most French people don't like to talk other languages than French. But such boorish attitude in the hotel is unacceptable. At the same time, the hotel description on booking.com says: “we speak English.” Disgusting!
Breakfast is mediocre, everything is old. Bed - ok. 2 points for it.
