ÉGLISE NOTRE-DAME
The only Tudor-influenced church in continental Europe, it is the result of several construction campaigns from the 12th to the 17th century.
On April 6,1921, Charles de Gaulle got married with Yvonne Vendroux under the bell tower of Notre-Dame church. This marriage makes the monument famous today, but this one is not very common in itself. Its construction started in 1223, but it was only completed after several construction campaigns carried out between the 13th and 17th centuries. Unique in its kind, the Notre-Dame church is probably the only church during the reign of Tudor (a family who reigned in England from 1485 to 1603) in the continental Europe. Its external appearance is similar to the cathedrals of Winchester, Rochester and Gloucester: it doesn't have a foothills, or mainstays, contrary to the majority of the French cathedrals. At the nave and transept crossing, there is a massive tower, like a fortress, a remarkable example of medieval architecture. It shelters the bell tower.
A Tudor style garden was designed around the building. It was inaugurated in September 2016 and will be expanded in the coming years.
