Lively place of life of the city of Calais, today a superb witness of its history.
The Place d'Armes is a lively place in the town and today it bears witness to its history: the Watchtower, the oldest building in Calais. Rising to 39 meters, it is a model of defensive architecture of the time. Destroyed in 1580 and rebuilt in 1681, it has successively served as a lighthouse, a dovecote and a military post. The tower cannot be visited for security reasons, but you can still admire its grandeur during your visit.
