THE FORT OF THE COLLISION
The Fort de l'Heurt, built in 1803 by Napoleon Bonaparte, which has become today a mooring site in Le Portel.
It was built in 1803 by Napoleon Bonaparte in order to protect from the south the anchorage of the Camp de Boulogne fleet, in anticipation of a landing in England. But the emperor raised the camp in 1805 and it was not until the Second World War that the fort regained its military utility. Today it has become a mooring site. Fishing for mussels is a real local tradition for the Portelois and is the joy of many tourists visiting the commune. Unfortunately, since its creation, the fort has suffered the ravages of time and tides. Its last consolidation dates back to the end of the Second World War and, since then, successive municipalities have not had the means to maintain it in good condition. A local association is actively campaigning for its safeguarding, but the future of the fort seems more than uncertain.
