HEADFRAME OF THE MARLES PIT N°2
Building in Marles-les-Mines housing a small museum with material and photographs on the mining activity of the city.
Due to a major water inflow, the well of Chevalement Le Vieux II in Marles-les-Mines collapsed in 1866. Twenty years later, this story inspired a certain Emile Zola who came to the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region at the time to find out more about the mining basins. This is how the story of Germinal began. The building that houses it is embellished with a small mining museum that offers to see equipment and photographs retracing the history of the town's mining activity.
