RUINS OF THE TOWERS OF THE ABBEY OF MONT-SAINT-ÉLOI
The hill of Mont-Saint-Éloi is dominated by impressive vestiges of an abbey. During the French Revolution, the buildings of the latter were demolished so that their stones were reused. Only the two towers and the facade of a church of the eighteenth century remained. During the First World War, these towers served as observation posts for the French forces and thus suffered numerous bombardments from German troops. They lost their top floor - their height increased from 53 to 44 meters. Classified historic monuments in 1921, these remains are maintained to testify to the destruction of the war.
