SAINT-GERMAIN CHURCH
This church is decorated with candlesticks and paintings of the seventeenth century, woodwork of the eighteenth century
The church dedicated to St. Germain was built in the 15th and 16th centuries, although its existence predates it, as can be seen in the upper part of the walls of the main nave. It was therefore remodelled over the centuries before being presented today as a fine example of the flamboyant Gothic architecture that marks the religious buildings of Béarn dating from the end of the 15th century. Romanesque art cohabits with it, which is notably visible on its portal of 1528, which was probably an open porch, and on its altarpiece. The latter is also listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments with the statues of the 17th century. The church is decorated with candelabra and paintings from the 17th century, and woodwork from the 18th century. A processional cross dedicated to Saint Lucia from the 18th century, gilded wooden statues and sculptures of Saint Michael, Saint Anastasius and Saint Lawrence complete the ensemble. If you are passing through Arudy (especially to see the Maison d'Ossau, a beautiful little museum about the valley), a stopover is therefore necessary to admire this atypical religious monument with its four bells bell tower.
