In 1973, a handful of volunteers had the bright idea of recreating the wedding of Friend Fritz in Marlenheim in the style of 19th century rural weddings. These festive weddings are revived every year on August 14 and 15 around a cheerful character, Fritz Kobus, the hero of the four-hander novel by Emile Erckmann and Alexandre Chatrian. Nicknamed Fritz Friend, he is a hardened bachelor and bon vivant, who, for love, ends up saying "yes" to the young and pretty Suzel. The party begins with a reenactment of the bachelor party of Friend Fritz, while the next day is devoted to the wedding. On the program: period costumes, bridal procession, traditional dances, concerts, local market, tombola and popular ball. It is also an excellent opportunity to taste the local products presented by many wine growers, producers and craftsmen of the region.
The plus : ideal to discover the Alsatian tradition in a playful way.
