THE ORCHARD OF ASCAIN
The Orchard of Ascain is part of the regional plant conservatory of Aquitaine
The Verger d'Ascain is part of the regional plant conservatory of Aquitaine which has been working for more than 35 years to conserve cultivated biodiversity and enhance the value of the regional fruit heritage. It is one of the seven host sites. Established in 1993, the town hall's heritage orchard is home to the old high-stemmed or vertical-axis varieties of the Basque Country, i.e. 89 varieties of 7 species, apple trees, plum trees, pear trees, fig trees, quince trees and medlar trees. In Ascain as in the other sites, the missions are the same.
