MENHIR SAYS THE BIG ROCK
This neolithic megalith is implanted on an important channel of communication at the time. The Sensible Valley is also particularly rich in megaliths or unusual stones. This multiplication probably cannot be the result of chance. Many assumptions have been made: astrological benchmarks? Place of worship? The mortuary site? What makes our imagination work! This menhir is 2.90 m above the ground (and drops to more than 8 m according to estimates), and is noted by a particular relief structure from the natural erosion that gives the impression that it has been cut in half. It has been classified at Historical Monuments since 1981. Many hiking trails, including the Gros Caillou Trail, are close to the site: the opportunity to discover the surrounding countryside, in which this unusual menhir attracts the eyes of travelers.
