SENTIER DU PLATIER D'OYE
A national nature reserve where many species of birds, ducks and mammals can be observed.
The Platier d'Oye National Nature Reserve is the first feeding area on the Channel and North Sea coast encountered by migrants on their way to their winter quarters. In all seasons, numerous birds (ducks, herons, spoonbills...) are present in varying numbers throughout the 391 hectares of the nature reserve. The seagulls are not to be outdone with the presence of a colony of melanocephalus gulls and terns that nest on the flat. In winter, you may be lucky enough to meet yellow-billed linnets, snow buntings and horned larks that have come from Scandinavia to spend the winter on the beaches. The Platier d'Oye is undoubtedly one of the ornithological jewels of the Pas-de-Calais department, now equipped with a path accessible to all and dotted with observatories, ideal for a family outing to observe many species of ducks (teals, whistlers or shovelers). In the middle of the dunes or on the beach, take the time to stop and admire the birds, but also the famous Highland cows. These brown-coated mammals from Scotland are particularly well adapted to our climate and naturally maintain the site. Take advantage of the Escardines beach to see the remaining blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall. On the way back, the Maison des Dunes awaits you with an exhibition and the Nature or Eden 62 guides and a little further on, take the path of the Flaque aux Oies, of the western polder.
