SAN MARTIN CHURCH
In the 15th century, Asson had three churches. Saint-Martin is the only to remain. The Romanesque building of the 13th century was completely replaced in the 16th by the current building. Its architecture is in a flamboyant Gothic style and its entrance gate is remarkable. Inside, you will discover treasures, such as the font, a wooden triptych of the 15th century attributed to a Flemish artist or the stained glass windows of the choir. Like many churches of the region, this site was devastated by the wars of religion during which it was burned down. Thereafter, during the Revolution, it was looted, closed for worship in 1794, and its cast bells. Since then, except its bell tower dating from 1870, its plan has not been modified. The nave has three bays flanked by three chapels and a polygonal choir with five sides. Finally, you should also see the war memorial, built in 1923, decorated with a bronze statue designed by the viscount de Luppé.
