VULTURE CLIFF
La Falaise aux Vautours offers a close-up view of the daily lives of griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures and bearded vultures
The Falaise aux Vautours reveals the life of the great birds of prey of the Pyrenees. On this 400 m² site, you can observe the daily life of griffon vultures, the Egyptian vulture and the bearded vulture, without ever disturbing them. Thanks to cameras installed on the cliff, very close to the nests, at an altitude of 1,000 metres, it is possible to witness the hatching of Griffon vultures' eggs and the life of the chicks in the nest. The images are broadcast live on a giant screen with commentary by a nature guide leading the visit. With 100 nesting pairs and 22 chicks fledging, the moments captured are magical.
They offer a guided tour adapted to the ages and school levels of children. The guided tour begins with a commentary on the different birds of prey, their aspects and specificities, then evokes the implantation of vultures on the cliff, their development and the history of the creation of the nature reserve. Then you will attend the cinema of the vultures where unique images on the life of the raptors, the hatching, their growth and the first flight, will be presented to you... Then a guide will comment on the live images, thanks to a camera installed on the cliff near the nests. Finally, you will discover the museographic space and you will be able to test the various supports present (images of birds in flight in slow motion, games, quizzes, sequences of images of vultures in the world, camera to be controlled, interactive terminals).
