SAINT-OMER'S LIBRARY
Library occupying the buildings of the former Jesuit College to discover the old and precious works in Saint-Omer
Open to the public since 1805, the library of Saint-Omer occupies the buildings of the former Jesuit college whose origin dates back to 1640. Discover ancient and precious works such as the first volume of a Gutenberg Bible, one of the copies of the Dictionary of Diderot and Alembert, incunabula and magnificent works copied and illustrated in the Middle Ages by the monks of the Saint-Bertin Abbey. In September 2014, the person in charge of the library's old holdings, who was preparing an exhibition, rediscovered a priceless edition of Shakespeare's first folio, printed in 1623 and forgotten on a shelf for 400 years!
