PILLAR OF THE GREAT ARMY
The Napoleon Monument is a 50 m column dedicated to Napoleon's history. An interior staircase leads to the top.
In 1803, Napoleon gathered troops in Boulogne-sur-Mer to conquer the United Kingdom. This is the famous episode of the Camp of Boulogne. Having given up his project, the emperor organized a sumptuous ceremony in Wimille to award 2,000 crosses of the Legion of Honor in the presence of 80,000 soldiers. Today, a monument has been erected in his honor: a bronze statue of Napoleon, in the uniform of the guard, installed at the top of a stone column over 50 meters high.
