TRINQUET SAINT-ANDRÉ
A former jeu de Paume hall, now a trinquet court, which has seen some of Bayonne's greatest players play over three centuries.
This former Salle de Jeu de Paume, located in the typical "Petit Bayonne" district, was first documented in the early 17th century. It became a trinquet at the end of the 19th century, when the playing area was slightly modified to allow the practice of Basque pelota, the king of sports in the Basque country. This trinquet, which has seen some of the world's greatest players play over the course of three centuries, is one of the oldest in France, and is used for bare-handed pelota games. At the heart of the trinquet is a brasserie, where conviviality reflects the image of the sporting site.
