Excellent Venetian cuisine with chef's specialties.
The little rue du Château has been transformed into a Venetian canal, and a touch of Vivaldi floats through the sky over Nantes. Welcome to San Marco, an Italian restaurant run by the warm-hearted Claudio, a specialist in Venetian cuisine. Last year, the restaurant was given a facelift, with stone walls alternating with warm-colored limewash paintings reminiscent of the facades of the Venetian Ghetto. With the decor in place, we're ready to sample the chef's specialties. There are no pizzas here, but a fine menu of Italian flavors: veal kidneys with porcini mushrooms, veal liver with onion confit and polenta, veal escalope with ham and mozzarella. For pasta fans, the choice is wide: spaghetti carbonara San Marco, tagliatelle bolognese, pappardelle cardinale (large pasta, San Daniele ham, porcini mushrooms and cream), penne terra e mare (pasta, tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, scampi and smoked salmon), spaghetti all'inchiostro (with black ink and squid), misto di ravioli with truffle and porcini mushroom sauce, or pasta with clams. Classic Italian desserts are also on the menu: tiramisu and panna cotta, but there's also a vanilla mille-feuille, Tutto al cioccolato (chocolate slices and vanilla ice cream) or Torroncino ice cream (nougat, chantilly, pralines). All to be enjoyed with a Spritz as an aperitif and a glass of Tuscan or Sicilian wine to follow. Don't forget to book.
