THE POMMERAYE PASSAGE
With its glass roof, allegorical statues and staircase, this covered passageway is one of the most beautiful in Europe.
Quite simply one of the most beautiful covered passages in Europe! More than a century and a half after its opening in 1843, spared by the bombings in 1943, it was redone and renovated in 2015. Innovative at the time, it was here that window shopping was invented - yes, it was the first time that customers could see the products through the windows! Overhung by a glass roof and lined with allegorical statues, its monumental wooden staircase serves 3 levels and lights up at nightfall. The Passage Pommeraye was built to link the rue Santeuil, the Graslin district, to the rue de la Fosse and the Place du Commerce. Classified as a historical monument since 1976, it inspires filmmakers (such as Jacques Demy with his film Lola), cartoonists and photographers and is now twinned with the Saint-Hubert gallery in Brussels. In 2016, a new passage, "Coeur de Nantes", was added to the initial project. Shops, homes, it is a place rich in architectural treasures. Don't hesitate to look up to observe the statues that watch over the place. If you are lucky enough to be there during the holidays, you will be charmed by the Christmas decorations, sumptuous, wonderful. What's more, the stores inside are surprisingly eclectic: there is something for every taste and budget! Interior decoration, shoes, luxury clothes, chocolates... No doubt that you too, like the people of Nantes in the 19th century, will have a good time window shopping. And who knows, you might even fall for a souvenir?

Extrêmement joli. Rappelle les passages parisiens.
On peut regretter un peu que le commerce mondialisé aie enlevé de la magie au lieu, mais c'était sans doute le prix à payer.
