LA FOIRE DE BÉRÉ

This emblematic fair in the department has been held for nearly a thousand years on the fairground, at the foot of the Saint-Jean-de-Béré church. Originally, a simple popular gathering of locals who came to worship a piece of the True Cross, brought back from the first crusade. This pilgrimage, which took place on September 14, encouraged trade and gave rise to many celebrations. As the region's economic showcase, the Châteaubriant-Béré fair has evolved over the centuries and adapted to the expectations of visitors. Textile activities, tanneries, livestock and nowadays agricultural equipment have in turn demonstrated the dynamism of an agricultural country where livestock still occupies a large place - the cattle market is the third largest national market. The date of this major commercial and festive event, which attracts more than 50,000 people each year, has not changed: it is the second weekend in September. And for the 2019 edition, it's time for a bike ride!
